An annual event

Well, summer arrived last week and it didn't take me long to have my usual Blepharospasm walk into the swimming pool. I was having my screen porch painted and had just fed the fish and went to talk to the painters and wlked right into the pool with my hat, glasses, clothes, shoes (and fish food)on. I thought the painters would have a heart attach. I am used to itas many of you know I do this at least once and sometimes more a year. It actually is funny now when it happens. At least this time the water was warm as it has been in the high 90s the last few days. ....As I mentioned wo people on this board before however, I am smart enough to keep my pockets empty except for keys and medicine when I am in the back yard as I know this happens from time to time. There is nothing worse than having to dry out your money and all the cards that one carries in their wallet....Alan

Oh Alan,
You make me LOL... we all know about your episodes and glad you
didn't do any damage to yourself on this one. Heck, if you fall
the wrong way and hit the side of the pool or some such nonsense,
you could really hurt yourself. We're going to have to hire you
a body guard...That aside, I would've loved to
have been a fly on the wall to see this and the expression
of the painters!!! Humor is so good for the soul....
Glad you are ok.

Alan, Alan, Alan......although it is laughable (and glad you did and could) and that the water was warm. I'm pleased to know you are really ok and just got wet as we all realise it could have been a much more disasterous situation. That's it for the season now, its only allowed once - no encores:-)

June in Toronto who is glad Alan is ok and can laugh at it all

Thanks June. I try and laugh these things off and put them in perspective. As I always say, there are those who are worse off than we are. This morning, I lost a very close friend to a heart attack. He was one of my officers in the Knights of Columbus and helped me immensely. He was my age and just had a wife and daughter from around here. Fortunately, he was very active in the K of C so he has hundreds of "brothers" who will be there for his wife if she needs help. I don't know how to explain how his loss has hit me because he was one of those people who helped everyone else and never wanted any recognition for what he did. I gave him a Knight of the Month Award recently and he actually got mad at me for recognizing him for something he felt God put him on this earth to do. Quite a guy.....Alan

Alan, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. It sounds as if he were truly one of the good guys, and they are too few and far between. It is a nice memory for you to have that you recently recognized his contributions to society.

It wouldn't be summer without a new chapter of "Alan Hits the Water" ... swimming pool, lily pond, whatever. I see your sense of humor is still intact.

Sally in North Idaho where the fireworks sound like a war zone and I think with compassion of the men and women who have to endure the "real thing." May they all be home again soon enjoying a patriotic gathering with their families and friends.

I am so very sorry Alan. I can tell that he touched you in a very special way. I'm grateful that his wife has a lot of "brothers" to help her.I wish there was something I could say to make it easier but I can't except to let you know that I care and yes, I have lost my best friend and a 23 year old grandson, which was the worst plus all my aunts, uncles , mother and sister. I am the last in my family. Ann
Thank God for my beb family.

Sally, Amen to that. It certainly would be nice to have all our soldiers home but unfortunately, freedom does not come free and while hard to do, we have to trust that their efforts are never in vain. It has been a crazy week. The latest eppisode is that the darn Blue Heron that has been "living" across the street in the Marshes by the pond finally discovered my koi pond. My wife awoke a few days ago at 6:00AM and when she pulled up the shade she noticed this large bird standing next to the pond. She creamed scaring me half to death adn it scared the Heron off. Fortunately it did not get any of our larger fish. It may have gotten a cople of small ones lbut we are not sure as thye are so scared now that they are hiding behind everything. I just bought a "fake Heron" which is supposed to keep them away as they are territorial and I have on order a special motion sensored water propulsion system that will shoot a stream of water at anything that moves within the range I set. That should be interesting. Anyway, the koi are worth thousands but much more sentimentally so I am trying everything I can to protect them. If the fine wasn't ten thousand dollars, I would shoot the darn bird. My wife would probably shoot me also if I did that though. Anyway, nice talking to you and thank you for your kind remarks about my friend. We are goingto his wake tonight....Alan

So very sorry to hear about your friend. I'm sure that his wife and daughter will be comforted knowing that the "brothers" are there for them. He sounds like he was a very caring person that just wanted to do the best that he could to help others and that was enough "recognition" for him.
My sympathies, Alan.

Shirley

You don't know how much you have helped me Alan. I fall all the time. I walk to the left. If left alone I walk in one big circle. My husband has learned to walk on my left side and keep pushing me right. It's getting to the point where I am afraid to leave the house alone
You make me feel normal. How nice to have a fish pool. Do you have any Coy? I heard on a documentary (it was on TV but my eyes were only ope on occassion), some coy sell for 25.000 dollars apiece. I love fish but don't like to clean the pool but if you have an outsie one, you could get it balanced. Thankyou, than k you Annn Doyle

Actually ann, the small pond with the waterfall is a Koi pond. I have around 18 fish in there now. Most are Koi but I have some beautiful fantail shubunkin goldfish which are really pretty. My biggest koi is about two feet long and probably close to 3 to 4 lbs (a big guy). They live to be around 100 so I hope (are you listening Mr. Heron) to have them around for a long time. Yes they can become very valuable and the latest thing is that there are actually koi snatchers who go into ponds and steal them to sell. Last year, I gave away 16 fish as I had too many in the pond. By the way, in the photo album section is a picture ofmy small pond. There is huge pond across the street from me but that is where the heron live and just a lot of bass and trout in there.....

The green algae is always a problem to fight so even though the bacterial level is OK, the pond gets a lot of sun. I have put in some shade trees since that last picture was taken so it is a little better shape now....Alan

It is heart warming to see that some things never change. I love your attitude and sense of humor. So glad you can swim with clothes and shoes and are not weighted down by your money. God love you. Thanks for the laugh. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

Way to go, Alan! I'm just glad that you didn't fall into the fish pond. I do worry about your Koi when you try to go swimming in their water. The pool.....well....you need a good cool dip every now and then. :-)
