On Sept. 2 I had my operation performed on eyelids. To date both eyes are still blurry at times. My left eye doesn't open all the way and the right eye opens mostly all the way. I was told they may have to go in and fine tune it a little bit. Is this normal? I was very scared when I was going in for surgery. My eyes burn at times. And in the morning when I drive I get a very large halo effect on, on coming vehicles. I read all I could on the operation before having it. Also got the tape from the BEBRF to see what I was in for. I tried to calm my nerves but even after the surgery I am still very reluctant on the outcome. I had what is called a limited myectomy. |

Who did your surgery? I had a successful limited myectomy five years ago, by Dr. Anderson in Utah. I recovered okay, and now get less Botox around my eyes (50 units total, less than before I had the surgery). I do think I had a "halo" effect for a while, and it took over a year for the numbness in my forehead to go away! My eyes still do not close all the way, though, and I use eye drops frequently to keep them from drying out. I think I had a little bit of burning after the surgery, which quickly went away. Are you using eye drops? I don't know anything about "fine-tuning". Maybe give it a little longer to see how you make out. Relax! Worry agitates BEB like nothing else! Mary

Lots of thick drops and cover your eyes when you rest or sleep. It takes a while to heal completely. My doc said little incision, but big surgery and it took months for my eyes to heal. I still cover my eyes to rest and sleep or I wake up feeling like my corneas or scratched and it is very painful and my surgery was in 2000. I use Thera Tears, but sometimes if they feel too dry use an oily type of drop with no preservative. I can see why you wouldn't want to be "fine tuned".....Whoa that would not be fun to have to go through that again. I'd change docs before I let someone do that, but maybe things will get better.

Doug, depending on how extensive the Limnited Myectomy was and who did it, will have an effect on the healing process. Miracles do not happen overnight. It does take time to heal and the swelling to go down if you had an extended Limited Myectomy which involved extensive removal of muscle in the forhead and eye areas. As for the burning sensation, I cannot attest to thatas I never had that problem but I know that steve from Tennessee did and he can probable relate his experience to you.Have patience and I am sure that things will work out for you. I will keep you also in y praers that you get better...Alan

After my surgery, my eyes were blurry, too. It was caused by excessive dryness due to my eyes not closing completely when I sleep. It's not that uncommon after a limited myectomy. As Delaine said, use drops and/or ointment and cover your eyes when you are sleeping or resting. I've been doing it EVERY night for almost 3 years now. I'm miserable if I don't.Virginia in AL
