Since I have Lupus which has given me a lot of trouble the past 2 - 3 years, I am really giving the Botox a lot of thought. As I have told you, I have gotten 34 injections around both eyes over the past 6 weeks or so. Lupus is an overactive immune system and when your body starts building antibodies, it can turn on your own body. I am thinking (scary thought) that if I get so much Botox that I start building antibodies to it that there is such a possibility that I will get in trouble with the Lupus. Now I understand you aren't doctors but you have been living with this a lot longer than I have and longer than most doctors. Do you think I have a valid enough concern to bring this up with my rheumey and optho-neuro? I need the Botox but I don't need any more Lupus problems. 3:30 a.m.and can't sleep because of my pain. Going to take a pill and try again! Thanks in advance for being so patient as I sort this out. |

I can understand your concerns. So much of the protein that caused the antibodies to build up years ago, has now been removed and Botox is very purified and diluted. I heard one doc say it would take 3000 units at once to really be dangerous. I struggled with not wanting to take the Botox, but have accepted that until I or they find something better that makes me do as well in combination with my Klonopin and Piracetam.......I have to have it about every 2 to 3 months in low doses. I'm so sorry you are in such pain. Hopefully every day will be better. Do keep your doctor informed how you are doing so this won't happen again. Hang in there. Try anything to get some relief and rest. Heat or Cold compresses on face and eyes or something that just causes some pressure on my eyes and face helps.....like the bags you put around your neck that can be put in microwave or freezer. Soft music and relaxation breathing, Pain medication or something for anxiety....keep bugging the doc until you get something that helps......Don't just suffer!!!

>Do you think I have a valid enough concern to bring this up with my rheumey and optho-neuro?<I think any concerns you have should be discussed with your doctors. Even if they dismiss them, you will have said what's on your mind and will have gotten a response. That is part of their job. Many of us have multiple diseases/disorders and it can be difficult to sort them out. And not many doctors have experience treating us - so you may give him/her something to think about.
