Corrie, thanks for the update on Patti, I e-mailed her and asked for her phone number. I am scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Anderson Jan 7th, after I see him on Jan 6th. I have lots of questions to ask. Would you please ask her permission for her phone number. Click on my name for my e-mail address. Please let her know that I was praying for her to have a successful surgery and recovery. Joyce in NC

Joyce, i hope both of your surgeries are successful in at least some way. Were you one of the north carolinians without power for so long?

Thanks to Corrie for posting for me on my return home from Utah. Boy, have I missed being on the BB and missing all the info, support and fellowship. I tried to e-mail from the CHase Suites the morning before I had surgery (it was nice of the office manager to let me on their computer, but just as I finished my message letting you know what Dr. Anderson was going to do that day - I got knocked off!!!!) I have the most beautiful blue OPEN (somewhat)eyes you have ever seen guys and gals! I do have blue eyes, but all around them are that familiar color of black, blue, purple and I'm beginning to see some yellow. Hope I don't bore you with the details, but this is what happened. My consultation turned into a 5 hour ordeal. I gave my doctor a 'complimentary peak' yesterday at his office and he sighed a relief when I told him that Dr. Anderson said I was the most "challenging" patient he has had. I'm sure my doctor would have felt real stupid if he had sent me out there for a simple procedure. As Corrie said, I was diagnosed with BEB, severe Apraxia complicated by Bells Palsy. He said mine would go down in one of his case histories. He did what he now calls his full myectomy (but we know it's not what he used to do) re-did the full upper myectomy again and lower corner of each eye. He stitched closed my Bells Palsy eye (less aggressive), stitched open my Apraxia eye (aggressive), stitched my tear ducts closed and did all the reconstructive repair on the eyes as he has described in his article to keep my face from being deformed, which will be fine once everything heals. He didn't want to, but was forced to do both eyes the same day since his surgery schedule was all booked, so both eyes were cast for two days. I wasn't sure he would let me leave that Thursday, but all went well - that was all that prayer power going up. The surgery lasted 3 hours and I did great - no pain - just a little discomfort when I sleep on the stitch on the Bells Palsy eye. Everyone says I look great already, just to see both eyes a little normal. He gave me my letter for SSD before I left there. Shirley - I told him you really liked his cowboy boots - he got a chuckled out of that one. I started telling him about the BB and he asked if that was anything like e-mail. I had NO idea the 'guru' was computer illiterate (his own words). Seriously, he and his staff were all very kind, compassionate, attentive and helpful in every area. I am so thankful I went - wouldn't have gone anywhere else. I am so thankful I did since my case was so complex. He was absolutely puzzled. He said the affects of my Bells Palsy on my left side were totally the opposite of most patients, he has seen a few. He was so puzzled that I asked him if possibly I'd had a stroke and he said no, but he knew I'd had Bells Palsy, but couldn't figure out why everythng on my left side shifted up and should have gone down. I told him I knew it was the Lord, because if it wasn't for that, I'd have been totally blind most days. The Lord has been good.(He said he's working on a new article on Apraxia if he can find the time to finish it - so if anyone sees it first, please let me know). Well, I hope I've helped someone else with my experience. Everything is still very blurry, but I'm able to make it through this message. I'm not going to push it, so if you don't hear from me for a while during my healing, you'll know why or it'll be short. I've missed you all and if I don't get back on - HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS. I forgot who it was asking- yes, we were in the area that lost all our power during the ice storm for so long. Went to Utah and didn't see a flake of snow!!! Figure that. Thank the Lord for gas logs and gas hot water heater!!!! Patti back in SC

HI Patti, welcome back. You certainly had aggressive surgery but you were in good hands - The Lord's and Dr. A's. Now you can recover slowly and surely in your own home. I hope the love of your family and friends during this holiday season will comfort you and spead your healing process. Have a Merry Christmas and a much healthier (eyes open) 2003.June in Toronto

Thank you so much for that report, Patti. As far as I'm concerned, the more details, the better! My friend is scheduled for surgery (same place, same doctor) the week after Christmas. Being blind for a couple of days is quite an experience isn't it?Continuing prayers that your healing will go well and the improvement GREAT!
Merry Christmas to all,
Cynthia in IL

Patti, glad that everything turned out fine for you. Once the swelling goies down, you will really notice a difference. Did you say hei to Dr. A for me. Shirley always kids him about his boots and I get on him about his Utah Jazz basketball team. He comes out to Boston on occasion to see a celtics / Jazz game. Many of us have had both eyes done at the same time which is the way that he used to do it. He still does if people ask and for the most part, I would much rather get it done all at once than have to make two trips or stay too long out there. When I went in Feb several years ago, there was no snow and temperature was in the seventies each day. There was tons of snow in the mountains however. Salt Lake is kind of in the valley and they don't always get a lot of snow in the city itself...Anyway, glad to have you back and know that our prayers worked for you...God Bless and have a very Merry Christmas.....Alan

This is great! At the G'ville office on Monday (for Botox) the word from Patti was indirectly via Judy Duncan. So we are all overflowing with a special kind of joy--doctor and the office team and Kitty. How's your dear little mother, Corrie? Merry Christmas to one and all, K.B.
