Hi everyone,

I haven't been on the board for a bit, but I wanted to share some information with you. A little background first-I lost my job and medical insurance after being placed on medical leave as funcionally blind with BEB. Being a social worker, I had to do some research and reach out for help for myself this time.

So if you find yourself or a friend in this situation, here's a little of what I was able to find. First, Vocational Rehabilitation paid for an appt with an optometrist who was familiar with BEB and was able to fit me with rose tinted progressive lenses that allow me some comfort in using the computer once again. Second, they have provided me with a computer program "Zoom Text" with speech which will assist me in becoming more employable. Third and most important, I found a website that directs you to pharmeceutical manufacturers who offer patient assistance programs. After filling out the application and waiting two weeks, I was informed yesterday that I am eligible for one year of Botox at no cost or until I get a job with medical insurance.

If anyone could use this information to obtain Botox because of your own situation, please email me.

Now if only I could find a job...Take care, Lori in Maine waiting for another snow storm. 8-)

Hi Lori,

I'm sorry you have to go through this mess, but good for you for your perseverence. Sounds like you are really on top of things.

I don't know how old you are. I am 63 years old now. I was diagnosed with beb/meige 10 years ago. I applied for my SS disability and got it. Sounds as if you really want to work though and I admire you greatly for that, but if things really get bad for you, you always have this option.

Good luck to you.

Carol Brown, Naselle, Washington, I feel like we're getting ready to float away.

That's wonderful that you were able to figure this all out, Lori, and I'm sure others in the U.S. will benefit. Now if only we (I) could figure this out for people in Canada????? Best wishes

Hi Lori,

Sorry that you had to go through all that. It's crazy all the red tape you get caught up in. I take it you weren't eligible for Long Term Disablity? I lucked out, I was working with a company who gave full LTD as part of their health benefits, so I was covered.

I know that you have a Dr. in Scarborough. Would you mind telling me his name again? Was it Dr Kahn? That was the name of the Dr., my Boston Dr. gave me.

Take Care,

Denise

Hi Denise,

Dr. Kahn did my Blepharoplasty (eye lid surgery). I have Rosacea on my lid and he believed that was causing my eye to be opened only 1 cm. It was approx 8 months later that he used the term Blehpharospasm with me because the eye had closed up again. Dr. Kahn is very good and gives Botox injections; however, he offered a referral to a neurologist, Dr. Drasby for me to receive my injections. I thought it best to go with the neurologist seeing we were dealing with a neurological disorder.

Apparently, no one has had the problem of not being able to afford the Botox because I have not heard from anyone. That's a good thing!!

Take care and please let me know how your appt goes with Dr. Kahn.

Lori
