Hi Marty, I also had surgery the same time as you did. The apraxia of the eyelids and the tear ducts, and the myectomy. My eyes are watery, I have stiches in the corner of my eyes , the eye lids, nubness in between my eyes and forehead. swelling This morning blured vision that went away after a few hours. I am getting very impatient with the healing process, but I think the recovery time is different with each individual.
Good luck on your healing I guess we have to be patient.

Dorothy, I called the Dr after I developed a clear swelling over the white of my left eye. Dr A diagnosed it as Chemosis - - - probably because I was not putting enough lubricant on the eye at night and it was staying partially open.Besides the complications, are you able to keep your eyes open better?
I also have a small pimple like bump in the outside corner of my left eye. Could this be the stitches you are referring to ?

Marty, I can keep my eyes open better, but they get very tired, so I just sit down or lay down for awhile and rest them that seems to help. Dr. A removed the muscles from my forehead, so I am swollen at my temples alot of healing yet to go. The outside corner of my left eye had a hole but it is healing.

Dorothy from PA,
Are you using warm packs, cold packs, or alternating for bringing down the swelling ? I was a bit confused from the directions given by the Drs in SLC. I cold packed for the first 72 hours and have been warm packing ever since. My field of vision is good, but I still have swelling and redness after nearly 1.5 months. Dr A said that complete recovery could take 6 mo. I am also struggling with a watery eye, chemosis (swelling of the eyeball), and Meige. So it's been a rough month and a half. I have discovered that deep breathing and long exhales help the Meige. Marty in IL

Ann,
It just looks like a clear substance/swelling on the surface of the eye. Dr A prescribed Patanol drops and indicated it would go away with time.

Marty, I had surgery with Dr. Andersonon Jan 7th. He did both eyes at the same time even tho he wanted to do one at a time. He said that if I was willing to wear the cast/mask for 4 days he would do it. My left eye is Ok. I have a little bit more white showing which gives me a "wild-eyed" look but at least it is open. At least I have a eyebrow. Between the lower eyebrow and the bordner of my eyes is still red but it will improve with time. My right eye is another story. It has lumps around the side of the eye and the bottom part of my eyebrow is missing or else hiding in those lumbs. Both the top and bottom lids cover part of my pupil which means my field of vision is not as good as the left eye. I sent a letter to Dr. Anderson complete with pictures of my eyes. I called to make sure they had gotten the e-mail. Dorie said she would go over the letter and the pictures and they would let me know something. Can i just tell you, that I want to joyful, and cheerful during this time but it is not easy, it is a struggle to get through each day. Already my lower lids are pulling up causing me the same fight/battle/struggle as before. I get Botox this Friday for the first time. I hope it works on my lower face. I will let you know. I am a little disappointed with my right eye but maybe it will straighten up. Joyce in NC where it is cold.-I can't seem to shake this cold I have. Everyday it's blow, blow, blow, sneeze, sneeze, drip, drip, drip. maybe I could you be more joyful if I didn't feel so miseravle with this cold.

O.K. now...I'm scheduled for myectomy on both eyes on March 10 with Dr. Patrinely. Then I'm to have a procedure called a sling later on. All of these lumps and holes that you guys are talking about are beginning to make me even more nervous than I already am. I was told that the swelling would take about 3 months to disappear. I've been wondering how much swelling.?. I've posted with Rita and Virginia and they had pretty good luck with the myectomys. I guess we've just wanted for something to be done for us so badly that we're anxiousd and the healing process is hard to wait on. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.

Sherie, Don't let us scare you off. I am sure that in another 6 weeks those lumbs will go away. It just takes time and when you are going through something yourself time is so slow and we get impatient. Your doctor sounds very good , so don't worry, everyone is different and we heal different. When we post on the BB, we give the good, the bad and the ugly. It's our way of letting others know that it just takes TIME. And we alll get a little impatient. Joyce in NC who still has a cold but took a Aleve Cold & sinus pill this morning and it seems to be helping. I think I need to vacuum and dust - that might help.

Sherrie , do not get worried about the swelling and lumps. I had a myectomy in 1999 and there was some puffiness for several months. Give youself something like 6 months to see a difference. The myectomy is not a cure and there will still be some problems, but if one can see that makes the difference. I have had very good results from the myectomy and have not had to get Botox since my surgery. Not every one gets the same results, but I feel you will see more improvement afterwards. I also have apraxia and the surgery did help with that too.
I wish you much success with the decision you have made.Corrie in S.C.

Corrie, Thanks. I've called the BEBRF to get the 2 videos on loan. They should be here by Mon. Dr. P told me that it would be at least 3 months of swelling. Hopefully I will have good results as you. I know everyone is different....and boy am I different. I can still laugh,so things can't be that bad. I'm trying to get everything in order around my house before I have this done. I think my family is more nerved up than I am...they want to know who's gonna help with homework, who's gonna pay bills, who's gonna cook,etc.,etc...?? I have a 15yr old boy and an 8 yr. old girl and the biggest baby of all is 46. Now don't you think they're old enough to fend for themselves for a few weeks? I guess it's my fault, they're all spoiled.
Thanks to all of you on the bb.Sherrie...don't hate me...70 degrees in FL

Sherrie,
You should be able to do laundry and cooking in a few days, or I was. I also was driving short distances in two weeks. Just wore my dark glasses and went.Although I was doing all of these chores very soon, after about a month I fell and broke both ankles! Then I sure did put my feet up for rest.We do spoil our families, and you should rest as much as possible after the surgery.Corrie in S.C. ....cold and windy 27 degrees in a.m.

Thanks for rubbing it in about the 70 degrees. It is 11 below at my house right now. I have a vary large house with 48 windows. No matter what I do, I can't get the darn house warmer than 62 right now. It is an open concept with a great room so even with the fans going, the heat just can't keep up with the cold. I have all the front and side window shades down to keep the radiation cold from coming in along with drafts, but the back of the house is all windows as our back yard is private and just open to the woods and we have no shades there.Anyway, about spoiling our families, like someone said, if you are the one who spoils them, you still will after the operation. It is just your nature to do it and they love it. Even though I am a male (I say that as we seem to get classified as spoiled), I do a lot around the house as my wife baby sits the grandkids and I am home alone a lot. I might as well do things to help. I am only saying that as I am sure that someone is going to want to jump in and classify all us guys in that vain. Just tell your kids especialy the 15 year old that you need the help. Let them starve and you send out for chinese or whatever you like to be delivered (but not for them). Sounds easy doesn't it. ...Alan P.S. You know it won't work though

My experience was like Corrie's. You should be able to do the basic stuff within a few days of your surgery. My eyes blurred for a while afterward, so homework would have been a challenge, though. To use the computer, I had to enlarge the print on the screen. But do take some time to rest, and ice or warm you eyes, as your doctor will instruct. We all heal a little differently, so do what's right for you and let them pamper you a little. The blurring was the biggest problem for me. It was caused by my eyes drying out while I was sleeping, since they don't completely close. That was easily remedied by using ointment and wearing a sleep mask. I bought a new car a couple of weeks after my surgery and drove the hundred miles or so to pick it up (had to go in hubby's stick shift with my son who doesn't shift - he got to be the first to drive MY new car to get it back home). This is not relevant to BEB, but it was the first time I had ever bought a car through email and phone calls and it worked out great. Virginia in AL

Sherrie, please do not get overly worried about your upcoming surgery. The things talked about regarding swelling and healing time are normal. I remember breaking my heal a couple of years ago and litterally being in a wheelchair and on crutches for over six months and it still hasn't totally healed two years later. Believe me, the Myectomy was nothing compared to that. Always look on the positive side of things. The negatives only make you feel worse and cause problems that you otherwise might not have to deal with. I know that is easier said than done but once you hae made the decision, I say full steam ahead and party right up till the operation . You can rest after..Alan

Marty, I am not familiar with Chemosis so I can't help you there. I will tell you that every patient is different and depending upon what had to be done and your susceptability to bruising and healing, the process will vary. I don't think that 6 weeks is too long. If I remember right, it was several months before I got somewhat back to normal. As for the little pimple in the corner ofyour left eye, I had the same thing. I don't know if it is caused by the suturing or what. It did eventually go away but on some are days, it will just show up again and last a day or two. You figure it out. I can't.Anyway, I would just say to be patient but if you feel something is wrong, don't hesitate to call Dr. A. Remember, it is considered a very difficult operation even though many of us (including myself) make it sound like an everyday thing. There are still only a few Doctors like Dr. A and Dr. Patrinelli who do quite a few of them. Wishing you the best...alan

Alan,
Thanks for the encouragement. My patience is running short, but at least I can see now. I guess it is worth all the complications of swelling, redness, and eye irritation (chemosis).
