I have blepharospasm for many years.Am well with surgeries and botox.. after a few years I got meige, and had movement problems with limbs that caused seizures for minutes to hours. I stopped taking klonopin over a year ago and I no longer have any spasm problems accept for my blepharospasm which is under control. This past year has been great. I can smile again , no longer sleepy and free of my movement disorders. 5-6 weeks ago I started coughing , had no sore throat or any signs of a cold. I am allergic and do take shots. My Florida internist could find nothing wrong. Four weeks ago I came to Chicago where I spend the summer months. I have seen my internist here twice, been given two different antibiotics, chest x-ray and blood test. Test were negative and I am still having very severe problems. Yesterday my son asked if this could be related to my dystonia problems. Frankly it never entered my mind as I have been so free for over a year. I am the area Rep in South East Florida. My support group is mostly those with blepharospasm, meige, hemifacial problems.
Over the years I have met those with spasmodic dysphonia only at the yearly meetings. I need help from those who may have my symptoms, coughing to clear my throat, swallowing problems to almost choking and a constant feeling fo having something at the back of my throat.I have just searched the internet but nothing on spasmodic dysphonia mentions , coughing or choking. I would appreciate help. Rita (ritsil@ aol.com .(312-654-9904)

Hi Rita Mike has had problems with coughing off and on since he was diagnosed with beb. His is a dry cough when he tries to open his eyes. A few months ago he tried taking benadryl after reading all of the info on the bb about how it helped everyone and it seemed to help. However he had to stop taking it for some asthma test and when he started to take it again it did not seem to help, and he dosen't have asthma. So now were not sure if it helped the cough or not. He's just had his 5th botox and he doesn't cough as much as he had in the past. He does choke while he is eating food sometimes and that was one of the questions the neuro asked him when he was first diagnosed. Hoped this helped Chris and Mike
